School is back in session and report cards have already gone out — for city buses. Bronx buses are getting a failing grade for speed.

We've all seen people bunching together at stops waiting for long periods of time just to get to work or your destination late, or the bus just going at painfully slow speeds when you're finally on. City Comptroller Brad Lander says more than half of New York City's 332 bus lines got a D or F.

In The Bronx, there are about 56 bus lines and about five of them received an F rating. Their average speed is below 10 miles per hour and have a below 50% on time rate.

Many of the other lines received D ratings for the same issues with their average speed time also lower than 10 miles per hour. But surprisingly their own time percentage rate is higher than the average.

The Bx29 route taking the only A rating in the borough with an 85.2% on time rate and average speed is about 14 miles per hour. City leaders say commuters rely on these buses everyday and this audit lays out a roadmap to making them faster and more reliable.
