Almost 400 employees for Atlantic City Electric are now on strike amid contract negotiations.

Atlantic City Electric, a utility company owned by Exelon Corporation, says a fair offer was presented to union IBEW Local 210. The company says it included yearly pay increases and health benefits, but the union rejected it.

The employees on strike include linemen and repair technicians. Their union is asking for better retirement security and pay parity for newer members.

The company released a statement saying its employees are compensated fairly.

Atlantic City Electric’s full statement below:

For the past few months, we have been in negotiations regarding a new contract with IBEW Local 210, which represents almost 400 employees in a range of positions at Atlantic City Electric. The contract between Atlantic City Electric and IBEW Local 210 expired on November 2, when we presented our best and final offer. We feel confident the company bargained in good faith and provided a competitive offer that is fair for employees and customers. At this time, the Union is on strike and we remain open to bringing both parties together to reach an agreement.

Our employees are compensated fairly. The offer presented included a five-year deal with incremental increases totaling 16-20 percent by the end of the contract term and numerous other benefits. Currently, the average Atlantic City Electric line person earns $177,326 annually, which includes overtime, with an average hourly rate of $53.72.

Other key offerings included a $1,500 ratification bonus, pay premium increases, meal stipend increase, clothing allowance increase, shift differential increase, as well as additional vacation days, additional holiday time, military leave enhancements, training pay increase and work from home option for certain classifications.

We have contingency plans and highly qualified staff in place to ensure our customers’ electric service is not affected. We will continue to respond to address any customer needs and electric emergencies, should they occur. Atlantic City Electric is committed to delivering safe and reliable energy service for our customers and the communities we serve.
