5-year-old dies after falling into Union swimming pool

A child who was pulled from a swimming pool at a home in Union Sunday afternoon has died.
In a statement, Township of Union police confirmed that the 5-year-old “has unfortunately passed away.” The child had been treated at a local hospital after being pulled from a pool at a home on North 3rd Street.
According to Union police, when officers arrived at the home just before 3 p.m., they found a neighbor in the backyard performing CPR on a 5-year-old child. Police said the child had fallen into a swimming pool at the home.
“The victim was removed from the pool by the neighbor and his mother and was non-responsive,” police said in a statement.
First responders then continued life-saving efforts and transported the child to the hospital in critical condition.
Officials said the incident remains under investigation by the Township of Union Police Department and the Union County Prosecutor’s Office.
