Jersey City officers will not face charges in death of 27-year-old man

The New Jersey Office of the Attorney General announced Tuesday that a state grand jury voted not to file charges against any of the officers involved.
Rogers was killed on Oct. 21, 2025, during an encounter with Jersey City police along Bergen Avenue.

According to investigators, officers approached Rogers in an unmarked police vehicle. Police say Rogers fired a gun and tried to run from the area. A second unmarked police car then arrived, and an officer got out and fired at Rogers, killing him.
The Attorney General’s Office of Public Integrity and Accountability investigated the shooting, as required under the state’s Independent Prosecutor Directive.
Investigators reviewed surveillance and body-worn camera video, witness statements, medical records and the medical examiner’s autopsy findings before presenting the evidence to a state grand jury.
After hearing the evidence and testimony, the grand jury concluded its deliberations Monday and determined there was not enough evidence to bring criminal charges against any of the involved officers.
