Flames engulf rear of Mantua Township home

A fire that erupted at a Mantua Township home Monday afternoon is under investigation.
The fire broke out just before 12:30 p.m. on Hickory Avenue. Crews from the Mantua Township Fire Department responded after callers reported black smoke in the area.
When first responders arrived, they found heavy fire coming from the rear of the house. Firefighters, dealing with heat and humidity in addition to the fire conditions, worked to douse the flames.
“Rescue 22 arrived and went into service with multiple hand lines,” the Mantua Township Fire Department said in a social media statement. “The fire was quickly brought under control without any injuries to firefighters or civilians.”
In addition to Mantua crews, mutual aid from neighboring towns responded to assist firefighters. The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Mantua Township Fire Marshal’s Office.
