Hinchliffe Stadium hosted competitive boxing matches over the weekend for the first time in 40 years.

The newly renovated stadium has a rich boxing history. It served as a premiere venue for boxing matches from the 1930s to the 1960s, attracting notable names such as Babe Ruth, Sugar Ray Robinson and Rocky Marciano.

Fans were welcomed on Sunday to the historic stadium to check out up-and-coming fighters at an event hosted by Humble Beginnings, Inc.

Hinchliffe Stadium was restored and reopened in May. It was built during the Great Depression and hosted Negro League games in the 1930s and 40s.

The stadium held its very first baseball game in 26 years in May. The stadium also hosted its first-ever Muslim holiday prayer in June. Graduations returned this summer for the first time since the stadium closed in 1996.
