Two construction workers were sent to the hospital following an incident on a Hoboken worksite on Thursday morning.
A witness tells News 12 that a deck off the side of a building on Observer Highway collapsed. They said construction materials being held up by the deck fell on the workers.
One worker was rescued by Hoboken EMS and the local fire department via crane.
"Since the building is still under construction, there's no permanent stairway. So, that was a challenge in and of itself. We had to use wooden, temporary ladders and take the freight elevator up to a certain point, hoist a lot of equipment up there,” said Hoboken Fire Chief Andrew Markey. "We used their crane as the main point, the lowering point. When we lowered him, he was alert and responsive. So, we were able to safely lower him down."
The traffic on Observer Highway was temporarily closed in both directions but the road has since reopened.
It was not immediately clear what caused the deck to collapse.
