A 68-foot World War II gun barrel is headed to Hartshorne Woods Park in Middletown.

The gun, which has been stored in Virginia since the Korean War, will now be on display as part of the Battery Lewis Restoration. Once the gun is restored, it will be placed on a pedestal in a case where it originally was mounted on Battleship New Jersey.

"We cannot build these gun barrels anymore so they are truly a unique artifact," says Gail Huntdon, a preservation specialist from Monmouth County Parks.

People will be able to tour the battery and learn about the coastal defense the U.S. used during the war.

It will be open to the public by the summer.
