Most residents of Jersey City and Hoboken have running water again after a water main break knocked out service to parts of Jersey City and Hoboken Saturday.
A demolition contractor broke through a 36-inch water main in Jersey City just after 1 p.m. They were working to clear out an old chocolate factory on Hoboken Avenue.
While officials worked to turn off the water Saturday afternoon, people stocked up on bottled water. Jersey City firefighters had to make constant water fill-up runs to Christ Hospital because there was no water there either. Hospital officials say patient care was not affected.
Hoboken was the hardest hit. Every restaurant and home was without water all day. Most residents seemed to take it in stride despite the hot weather.
No flooded homes were reported.
Pressure remains low and officials urge residents to boil water before drinking it or using it for cooking.
