Work to repair a Woodbridge roadway that split down the middle could take months, according to officials.

Last week, crews took soil samples from the ground along Smith Street in the Keasby section of Woodbridge after it split down the middle. This stretch of road connects Woodbridge to Perth Amboy. They are also using sensors and a survey camera to monitor any movement.

Drone 12 flew over the area on Monday to survey the conditions.

An exact cause of the damage was not immediately known. But some local officials suggest that it may have been caused by construction and digging on what will be a massive warehouse called the Raritan River Logistics Center. Brookfield Properties is the company building the center.

"Working closely with third-party engineers and local authorities, we have instituted measures to address the impacts on Smith Street and are investigating what transpired,” a spokesperson for Brookfield Properties wrote in a statement.

Homeowners in the area tell News 12 they are also worried that the cracks in the road will reach their homes and compromise their foundation.
