A Jersey City woman was struck and killed by a car while trying to cross Routes 1&9 early Wednesday morning.
Police say that the 34-year-old woman was trying to cross the highway near Sip Avenue just after 4:30 a.m. when she was struck by a Honda Accord.
Police say that they initially thought that the driver fled the scene, but found him pulled off about 500 feet down the highway. Officers said that there was damage to his car.
A spokesperson for the Jersey City Police Department says that the preliminary investigation shows that it appears that the victim was crossing the highway against the light.
No charges have been filed at this time.
