Bergen County prosecutors say a woman fought off a sexual predator Thursday in the bathroom of a mall in Hackensack.

Authorities say 30-year-old Craig Herbert, of New Milford, followed a woman into the bathroom at The Shops at Riverside. They say Herbert shoved the victim to the floor and attempted to sexually assault her. The victim was able to fight off her attacker before calling 911.

Herbert fled the scene but was arrested hours later in Paramus. He was charged with second-degree attempted sexual assault, third-degree criminal restraint, fourth-degree criminal sexual contact and the disorderly persons offense of simple assault.

Herbert is being held at the Bergen County Jail pending his first court appearance in Hackensack.
