A Newark woman was caught using a fake doctor?s note she bought on the Internet when authorities contacted the doctor who?s name she used.
Nina Weems, of Newark, printed out a phony doctor?s note from a Web site to get out of going to court for a speeding ticket. The note, however, contained the name of a real doctor, Dr. Wayne Bass of Maplewood.
?I was shocked. It was a little weird,? Bass said. ?Someone was impersonating me, someone was using my good name in a business.? Bass said he learned of the fake note after a Hanover Township Court administrator called him to check the validity of Weems? excuse. He said the letterhead and signature on the fake note were different from his own. Bass said the letter looked unprofessional.
Bass said he's not pursuing legal action since the woman may be facing more charges in Hanover Township, like contempt of court for the fake note. He also says the woman came to see him for his medical services but gave a fake name. Bass said the woman eventually confessed to him about the note.
