A man driving a backhoe was charged with drunken driving after police say he was seen swerving all over the road while drinking a beer.
South Brunswick police say William Campbell, 56, was seen swerving on New Road near Route 1 Tuesday afternoon. When an officer pulled up behind Campbell, police say the officer saw him slouched over the wheel of the backhoe while he was driving.
Once Campbell was pulled over, police say they found a bottle of Jack Daniels and a bottle of vodka inside the backhoe. Campbell also allegedly told the officer that he did not have a valid driver's license.
Campbell was charged with DWI, having an open alcohol container and several traffic violations.
Police say that Campbell has seven prior DWI convictions dating back to 1980.
