Some participants in Sunday’s Paramus half marathon could face charges after heavy rain caused flash flooding along the racecourse.

The Bergen County Executive’s Office confirmed to News 12 that some runners who entered a lake after the race could be cited for an ordinance violation.

Viral video showed portions of the course overwhelmed by floodwaters as heavy rain moved through the area.

County officials say race organizers had previously been instructed to use an alternate route to avoid areas of Saddle River County Park that are prone to flooding. The county has since placed the organizer on probation.

Officials have not said how many participants could face charges.
