Students and staff at the Whitney Houston Academy School of Creative and Performing Arts are mourning the pop star's death today.
Authorities say the 48-year-old Whitney Houston died Saturday at a Beverly Hills, Calif., hotel. No cause of death has been given.
The Franklin School on Dodd Street was renamed after the New Jersey-native singer in 1997.
Principal Henry Hamilton led students on a walk past the home where Houston grew up this morning, then to the academy.
"I haven't had too much sleep to be honest with you and sometimes tears come to my eyes just thinking about it but I try not to become too emotional," said Hamilton who was the principal when Houston was a student at the school. "She was a beautiful person beautiful singer and we all loved her."
