The town of Westwood has cooked up a plan to save money on fuel costs for maintenance vehicles.
Borough Administrator Bob Hoffman says under the plan, a few trucks will be converted to run on used cooking oil. The plan calls for local restaurants to donate their used oil to the town. Hoffman says he has seen cooking oil used in other places and it works.
Some mechanics say using oil would make their jobs easier. Restaurant owners say they wouldn?t mind donating their oil, especially if the town takes it from them for free.
The Westwood Borough Council unanimously approved the plan Tuesday. The town will test two different systems on two trucks and report back to the council on which works best.
