A 25-year-old Elmwood Park man has died following a crash late Sunday night on the Garden State Parkway. New Jersey State Police said the crash occurred at about 11:14 p.m. in the southbound lanes of the parkway near mile marker 167.1 in Washington Township. According to state police, a preliminary investigation shows that a BMW SUV being driven by Joel Hernandez, 25, veered off the left side of the roadway and struck multiple trees. Multiple first-responders arrived at the location and determined that Hernandez had sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. Lane closures impacted the area during the initial investigation, but traffic was clear by Monday morning. The cause of the incident remains under investigation.
