A Union County park has reopened days after an aggressive coyote was spotted.
Westfield police have not said anything about capturing the animal. They say that there has been no evidence of a rabid animal near Brightwood Park, but they are warning all visitors to use caution.
Hikers are advised to stay on established trails. Dogs should be kept on a leash. Visitors are advised not to approach any wildlife and to make noise while walking so that animals are aware of their presence. Visitors should also avoid carrying food and should be sure not to leave any trash behind.

“It’s just nature. We’re kind of hanging out in the animals’ house,” says Westfield resident Tom Reprecht.
The Westfield coyote sighting comes just a few days after another aggressive coyote bit two people and attacked a dog at South Mountain Reservation in Essex County.
The New Jersey Health Department says that the summer months always bring an increase in reports of wildlife sightings. They say that seeing an animal usually isn’t cause for concern unless the animal appears to be sick, aggressive or injured.
