Westchester lawmakers raise awareness of unclaimed funds to residents across county

The money mostly comes from dormant bank accounts, uncashed paychecks and other reimbursements.

A lawmaker's push to connect more people with unclaimed funds is expanding across Westchester County.
Westchester County Board of Legislators Chair Vedat Gashi and Legislator David Imamura teamed up with the county executive's office and state comptroller to raise awareness of the available funds.
They're sending out a massive mailing so people know there is about $500 million in unclaimed funds in Westchester County alone.
The money mostly comes from dormant bank accounts, uncashed paychecks and other reimbursements.
Imamura says people might also be eligible to receive funds for a loved one who passed away.
To claim your funds:
  1. Visit the New York State Comptroller's website at osc.state.ny.us/unclaimed-funds.
  2. Click "Search Now."
  3. Enter your information as prompted and follow the instructions to claim your funds.
Note: Processing times for claims may vary.
To assist people in accessing these funds, there are several in-person workshops with the Comptroller's Office:
