A dog struck by a car in Hackensack this past October has gotten her happy ending.
“We received Stella after we got a call from the Oradell Animal Hospital stating that they had a dog who was hit by a car on Route 4 and no one has come to claim the dog,” says Bob Bergamini, manager of the Bergen County Animal Shelter.
Bergamini says the dog had a fractured pelvis and broken ribs.
“She couldn’t walk on all four legs, one of her back legs was pretty damaged,” he says.
Stella started to recover with a lot of rest and treatment and her picture was posted online. That picture caught the attention of Natalie D’Angelo.
“She was posted on a Bergen County Facebook group, and she went viral,” D’Angelo says. “A friend of mine’s husband works at Oradell [Animal Hospital] and I reached out and he said, ‘Oh, so many people want her.’ I wanted until I found her here.”
D’Angelo says her previous dog died in March.
“She was a half dachshund and because [Stella] was half dachshund, I felt like maybe she was being sent to me from [my previous dog],” D’Angelo says.
D’Angelo says that she feels like she won the lottery now that she has Stella in her life.
