theFrom Election Day weather perfection to a record-warm Wednesday - temperatures continue to excite, but what’s our position on precipitation?
New Jersey’s 37 consecutive days of no rain will likely be stretched out to 42. Even if we do see rain, will it be enough?
How picture-perfect was the weather on this Tuesday? Sunny skies and warm breezes helped lift afternoon temperatures into the mid-70s. (58 is normal for this time of year for some comparison) It’s not November, it’s NovembAHHHH! Afternoon highs will be even warmer tomorrow. It looks like the afternoon sun and a favorable west wind will help set the stage for a remarkable/record-breaking afternoon high in the low 80s. The only thing that could possibly ruin the record run would be lingering clouds and slight wind off the ocean later in the day. If that happens temps are still wow-able in the mid-70s!
Clouds will collect tomorrow night. A weak weather system drifts through the area. Again this system comes through dry. The only way we know it passes is by a wind shift bringing cooler air back to the area. Temperatures will begin to fade on Thursday under partly sunny skies. Low-70s for daily highs. Friday and Saturday a reinforced shot of Canadian air slips in. Sunny and dry with temps in the 60s. Cooler than the last couple of days but still warmer than the seasonable average.
So what about some rain? I’m glad you asked. Our best chance for wet weather is possible either Sunday or Monday. Am I sold on the idea of a good soaking rain? No, I am not. The guidance from yesterday to today went from a 65% chance to a 40%. Forty percent is still better than nothing, but that too is also on the forecasting table, unfortunately.
The combination of another cold front from the west and remnant moisture from Tropical Storm Rafael being scooped up and delivered on New Jersey’s doorstep would be great news. It doesn’t look like it would be flooding rains but bigger than normal puddles on streets could be an issue if we see some rain. The ground is hard as a rock. If rain falls it will immediately roll right off, not get absorbed into the ground, and find a home on our roads. Puddles will collect quickly in low-lying areas. Widespread flooding won’t be an issue. But if the two systems don’t merge correctly and don’t get scooped up the East Coast. Not getting any rain will be an issue.
