Wayne native Francesca Russo will represent New Jersey and Team USA at the Tokyo Olympics next month on the fencing team.
The 25-year-old qualified for the team event in women's saber.
Russo is a four-time state champion for Wayne Valley High School, a two-time national champion for Notre Dame, and a junior world champion.
The women's saber team also features another Jersey girl - Avenel's Dagmara Wozniak. She helped Team USA capture bronze in the team event five years ago.
Russo says it's an honor to be part of such a distinguished group.
“Just to be part of a team that's walking with an Olympic medal is incredible and the girls are still so fierce and still so talented and it's just incredible to be a part of it and I'm so excited to see what we can do this year in Japan,” Russo says.
The Tokyo summer games begin July 23.
