Wayne native to represent New Jersey and Team USA on Olympic fencing team

Wayne native Francesca Russo will represent New Jersey and Team USA at the Tokyo Olympics next month on the fencing team.

Wayne native Francesca Russo will represent New Jersey and Team USA at the Tokyo Olympics next month on the fencing team.
The 25-year-old qualified for the team event in women's saber.
Russo is a four-time state champion for Wayne Valley High School, a two-time national champion for Notre Dame, and a junior world champion.
The women's saber team also features another Jersey girl - Avenel's Dagmara Wozniak. She helped Team USA capture bronze in the team event five years ago.
Russo says it's an honor to be part of such a distinguished group.
“Just to be part of a team that's walking with an Olympic medal is incredible and the girls are still so fierce and still so talented and it's just incredible to be a part of it and I'm so excited to see what we can do this year in Japan,” Russo says.
The Tokyo summer games begin July 23.
