A water main break in a Cranford neighborhood left dozens of homes without water service.
New Jersey American Water says the break in the 16-inch cast-iron main was discovered at around 5 a.m. Thursday. It happened in the area of Denman Road and Lincoln Avenue East.
Authorities say that for almost three hours, water gushed out of the 85-year-old broken main, flooding at least four basements in the neighborhood.
The utility says about 70 customers were without service, while many others were experiencing low water pressure. Officials say crews brought gallon jugs of water to those affected.
Repairs should be completed by Friday morning, according to a New Jersey American Water spokesperson.
