Police say an 88-year-old woman experienced a medical episode while driving, leading to a high-speed crash. The incident was caught on camera.

Garfield police say that during the crash, the woman pushed down on the gas pedal and lost control of the car.

The vehicle then traveled onto the sidewalk, under the Passaic Street train trestle and struck a decorative light post, traffic light and large flowerpot, which caused significant damage, police said.

A man walking on the sidewalk narrowly escaped as the woman’s car barreled down Passaic Street before hitting two cars at an intersection on Midland Avenue.

Police say the woman walked away with minor leg injuries. They say wearing her seatbelt saved her life.

Police say she was later transported to the hospital by EMS in stable condition. There were no other occupants in the vehicle.

Police say there were no reported injuries to the occupants of the other vehicles involved.
