HEAT ALERT: Tracking stormy weather overnight; 90-degree temps continue into the weekend
9h agoA boil water advisory was lifted in Waldwick Thursday afternoon after repairs were made to a water main that broke earlier this week. The broken water main shut down schools and left residents and businesses without running water.
Water quality testing shows the absence of bacterial contamination, the borough wrote in a Facebook post.
The break happened on West Saddle River Road near East Prospect Street, according to officials. An alert went out Monday around 10 p.m.
Schools in the borough were closed on Tuesday due to the water main break. Many residents and businesses had no running water, and some even said they experienced flooding as a result.
Homeowners told News 12 New Jersey they were without water for several hours before getting it back around 2 p.m. on Tuesday. There was a water bottle distribution – limited to six bottles each – at the police station.
The borough of Waldwick is advising residents to take the following measures:
- Run water faucets for 3-5 minutes to flush your service connection and interior plumbing with water from the service main.
- Empty and clean automatic ice makers and water chillers.
- Drain and refill hot water heaters if the temperature is set below 113 degrees.
- Service connections with a water softener/cartridge filter should be run through a regeneration cycle or other procedures recommended by the manufacturer.
- Water reservoirs in tall buildings should be drained and refilled.
