Multiple people were hospitalized after a kid on a golf cart drove off course during a simulation Tuesday and crashed into several people at a park during Wildwood’s National Night Out event, according to police.
Authorities say a minor drove a low-speed golf cart drunk driving simulator off course at Fox Park. During one of the course operations, police say the minor was in the golf cart with an officer when it left the enclosed course and struck several people.
Four adults and the minor were injured and transported to Cape Regional Medical Center. Three people were released and two people remain in the hospital due to their injuries, police say.
National Night Out is an event that connects local law enforcement with the community.
Wildwood police say they have been running this simulator for the last 20 years. The program is meant to deter drunk driving.
The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Wildwood Police Department at 609-522-0222 or the Cape May County Prosecutor's Office at 609-465-1135.
