A neighborhood united Tuesday in a time of pain and loss after a house fire in Somerset County claimed the lives of a woman and her two children.
Fire officials say the blaze started Monday around 11 p.m. in a two-story house on South Fifth Avenue. According to investigators, the fire started in the first-floor living room of the apartment on the left side of the house. A neighbor helped Tubal Eduardo Sr. rescue one of his sons, 2-year-old Noah. Eduardo?s girlfriend, Heather Marchie, and their other two children, 5-year-old Tubal Eduardo Jr. and 4-year-old Angelina, were all trapped in a second-floor bedroom. They perished in the fire.
Friends, family members and neighbors held an informal vigil to remember the victims. They also prayed for Noah to have a full recovery and for Eduardo to gain the strength he needs to carry on.
Investigators are blaming the fire on an overloaded extension cord.
