The two victims of a deadly house fire in Perth Amboy have been identified as a father and his 5-year-old son, according to neighbors.
Neighbors say that Rudy Jumelle and his son Rhyan Jumelle died in a fire inside a multifamily home on the 100 block of Commerce Street. Officials say that the victims were found in the front of the home.
New Jersey state police dogs had to be brought in to help find Rudy Jumelle’s body in the rubble of the home.
Officials say that 10 people, from two families, were inside the home when the fire started. Fire officials say that the home was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.
Perth Amboy Fire Chief Ed Mullen says that three firefighters were injured while battling the fire.
“Two firefighters had their gear burned and were taken to medical centers with minor burns,” he says.
Mullen says that one resident jumped from a second story window to escape the fire.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
“It is not suspicious at this point but the investigation is continuing,” Mullen says.
The house was torn down after the fire due to the amount of damage. Investigators were inside prior to the demolition to examine what was left.
Officials are also trying to determine if the home had working smoke detectors.
