The owner of three gas stations in Ocean County has agreed to pay $17,500 after investigators uncovered allegations of deceptive business practices involving prices displayed on gas pumps.

Rajinder Chandi, owner of Delta on Route 37 in Toms River, Delta/G&R, LLC on Route 37 in Lakehurst and Sunoco on Route 37 West in Toms River agreed to the penalty following an investigation by the Ocean County Division of Weights & Measures and the Office of Consumer Protection.

"Investigators uncovered numerous violations of state Weights & Measures laws alongside a pattern of deceptive business practices," said Ocean County Commissioner Robert S. Arace, liaison to the Ocean County Department of Consumer Affairs.

The investigation began after the Office of Weights & Measures received complaints from customers about the three gas stations.

As part of the settlement, Chandi must pay the $17,500 penalty and ensure that digital gas pump displays accurately reflect the price per gallon being charged.

He also agreed to use only state-licensed, certified vendors to perform pump repairs and to comply with state Weights & Measures and consumer protection laws.
