An animal welfare group opened a low-cost clinic in Essex County this week.

The Associated Humane Society in Newark already operates a shelter, but, now, they also offer pet health services at an affordable price.

"Veterinary care has gone up exponentially," said AHS social media manager Olivia Gonzalez. "It has priced a lot of people out of providing basic care for their pets."

AHS says their aim is to make preventative care accessible to all pet owners.

"We're really able to provide the community with a way to protect their pets," Gonzalez said.

The clinic offers pet vaccinations, nail care, cleanings, and check-ups.

"It doesn't cost a lot to get your dogs vaccinated, neutered, spayed, anything else," said customer Lateefah Davis. "I only paid $160 for full vaccinations. If I would've taken her somewhere else...they want a full package for about $300 for the same exact shots."

All patients at the clinic must have an appointment. The AHS clinic is open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 8 a.m. -6 p.m.
