Three men have been convicted of murder in connection with a 2019 shooting inside a Newark barbershop that killed a 22-year-old barber and injured two others, the Essex County Prosecutor's Office announced Monday.

Daezhon Peterson, 25, of Maplewood, William James IV, 24, of Irvington, and Watson Delcy, 25, of Hillside, were found guilty Thursday, Oct. 29, following three days of jury deliberations.

Prosecutors said James and Peterson fired more than 25 rounds at Sabor Townes, of Maplewood, as he was cutting hair at Cut Creators Barbershop on Clinton Place on Nov. 19, 2019.

Townes was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other people were struck by gunfire and survived. A third shooter was never identified, prosecutors said.

Delcy was identified as the getaway driver of a stolen Toyota Corolla.

James and Peterson were each convicted of murder and conspiracy to commit murder, along with aggravated assault and multiple weapons offenses.

Delcy was convicted of murder, conspiracy to commit murder and receiving stolen property.

All three men are scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 8, 2027. Each faces 30 years to life in state prison.

Prosecutors said James and Peterson also face additional consecutive prison terms of 10 to 20 years in connection with the injuries to the two surviving victims.
