Utility crews worked to restore electricity one day after a powerful storm took out trees and power lines across the state.
Fallen trees blocked roads around the state, including Indian Road in Wayne. The roadway was shut down Monday afternoon while PSEG crews worked to repair knocked down power lines.
In Denville, a couple told News 12 New Jersey that they also had a close encounter with a falling tree.
"I was asleep and my wife was vaguely awake. And she said she heard the wind howling like crazy,” says Peter Quirk.
Quirk says that it was around 12:30 a.m. when the tree crashed into their home and pierced the roof. Luckily, no one was injured.
Sunday’s heavy downpours soaked the state and caused street flooding. The flooding in Newark was worsened by a broken water main.
The flooding also caused service on the New Jersey Transit's River Line to be suspended for a time.
News 12 New Jersey forecasters said that winds reached nearly 60 mph in some parts of the state during Sunday’s storm.
