The U.S. Postal Service says it may have to close thousands of post offices across the country, including a number of New Jersey locations.
More than 3,000 post offices may be cut or consolidated nationwide. Tens of thousands of job cuts could accompany the move.
The U.S. Postal Service lost nearly $2 billion during the first three months of this year. Many believe the losses come as people turn to the Internet to pay bills and stay in touch in an increasingly paperless world. Mail volume is down nearly 15 percent from 2008.
The possibility of cuts, consolidations and closures does not sit well with postal employees.
"How could they even think about something like that?" asks Gloria Bailey, a mail handler in Newark for 24 years.
Decisions of which post offices will stay or go will be made by Oct. 1.
