The United States Post Office honored trailblazing African American journalist Gwen Ifill with a forever stop.

The ceremony took place at the Springfield Avenue Station Post Office on Friday morning.

Ifill was a trailblazer in broadcast and print journalism. Much of her reporting was centered on Washington, D.C. She was the first African American journalist to moderate a vice presidential debate.

"A powerful message requires a powerful tool. The mail is one of the most powerful and most easily accessible communications tools viable today. And a single postage stamp is the only investment that you need,” says Postmaster Silvia Glover.

This is the 43rd stamp in the Black Heritage series. It costs 55 cents.
