U.S. health officials are keeping an eye on the rise in COVID-19 in Europe

The new variant currently makes up 39% of the new infections in the Garden State and New York.

New Jersey health officials say the subvariant of Omicron, BA.2 leading to a rise in COVID-19 in Europe is in the state. 
Germany is reporting a 20% rise in COVID-19 infections. The UK is experiencing a 26% increase. 
The new variant currently makes up 39% of the new infections in the Garden State and New York. 
The increase in infections is causing officials to worry about a new wave of infections in the country. 
Gov. Phil Murphy says he does not expect to have to bring back “universal statewide protective measures” because New Jersey does have one of the highest vaccination rates in the nation. 
However, the governor does encourage people to continue to get tested and vaccinated.
