(AP) - Police say the driver of a stolen pickup was arrested after the truck crashed into a New Jersey building early Christmas morning, sparking a fire and displacing some residents.
Atlantic City police say officers and emergency personnel responded to the crash just after 4:30 a.m. on Atlantic Avenue.
Witnesses reported the truck driving at high speed before it left the roadway and smashed through the front of several stores, then caught on fire.
The driver was taken to a hospital while police evacuated residents from apartments above the stores. The adjoining apartment building was also evacuated.
Police say the vehicle had been reported stolen in Pleasantville. The 20-year-old driver faces driving while intoxicated charges as well as careless and reckless driving, suspended driver, receiving stolen property and marijuana possession counts.
