Representatives of the Trenton Public Works Department say they had a record turnout for the city?s 20th annual Litter March.
Although keeping communities clean is a year-round job, Trenton gets a big boost from volunteers once a year with the Litter March event. For the most recent march, more than 1,400 people signed up to collect trash and debris around the city. The team with the most trash at the end of the day wins a prize.
The city?s Public Works Department says the one-day cleanup helps crews save about a month of work. ?We can be filling pot holes, putting down new lines on the road. We can be doing more curb line work,? Public Works employee Eric Jackson said.
This year, the Litter March had approximately 600 more volunteers than last year. The volunteers also collected about twice the amount of garbage from last year.
