The city of Trenton is under an extreme winter weather watch in advance of an arctic blast expected to hit the Garden State.
Temperatures are expected to dip into frigid conditions over the next couple days in Mercer County. City agencies in Trenton are gearing up for new responsibilities as the weather gets worse, including police patrols to move homeless people to shelters.
Both the Low Income Heating Assistance Program (LI-HEAP) and the city of Trenton have set up hotlines to help residents deal with heating problems.
"It's going to get cold and we're ready," says police spokesman Pedro Medina. "If we see a water main break or any of those type of problems, we will definitely take action."
