A judge has sentenced a former Milford resident to 2 1/2 years in prison on fraud and firearm offenses.
U.S. District Judge Sarah F. Russell in New Haven sentenced 45-year-old Marc Anthony Alexander on Tuesday to 30 months in prison and two years of supervised release.
Authorities say from July 2023 to December 2023, Alexander worked with Melanie Ham to trick a victim into investing $167,000 for their business, Traveling Graces, LLC. Officials say the two used the money for their own purposes.
In May 2024, Alexander posed as an FBI agent to speak to an employee of the residential community in which he lived. He claimed he needed additional parking spaces for professional reasons. Officials say Alexander wore a fake FBI uniform, showed a fake FBI badge and had a pistol in a holster.
This is not the first fraud conviction for Alexander. In April 2017, he was sentenced in New Haven federal court to eight years in prison with three years of supervised release for his role in a postal money order theft scheme, as well as his participation in a separate scheme involving the fraudulent sale of financed cars. He was released in February 2023.
Alexander has been in federal custody for over a year. He pleaded guilty this January to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and one count of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.
Ham pleaded guilty this November to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and awaits sentencing.
