NJ Transit has suspended three employees and ordered additional railroad switch inspections after a train derailed during the morning rush Wednesday. A spokesman for NJ Transit says three cars on a southbound train went off the track at around 7:30 a.m. The train was traveling from Waldwick to Hoboken and had about 100 passengers on board. All of the passengers were removed and there were no reports of injuries due to the incident. An investigation revealed a switch replaced at nearby Ridgewood Junction station 10 days prior was improperly installed. Officials say that resulted in the rails being too narrow over several feet of track. A track supervisor and two track foremen were suspended without pay pending an administrative hearing.
