Theater student Isabella Sciortino was dreaming of her big stage debut in New York City – a dream now changed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Obviously the health of health care workers and everyone going through this horrible time – that comes first. But I was definitely bummed out,” she says.
The Rumson-Fair Haven High School junior was among 24 theater students from New Jersey cast in a new musical comedy called “Camp, A New Musical,” which was set to open in July on New York’s Theater Row.
But with the performance now put on hold until next summer, the show’s cast is recovering videos from home of the show’s songs while in quarantine.

“And we all thought it was a really cool idea to have it like ‘Brady Bunch-style,’” says student Greyson Riley. “We thought it was an awesome way to keep the positivity up.”
The cast is made up of students of Red Bank theater coach David Meenan, who wrote the musical. It is about young people bridging their differences while attending summer camp.
“It’s wonderful to be able to work with them and their energy and to keep the dream alive,” he says.
New videos of songs from the show are being released each week on the musical’s YouTube channel.
