The Thanks4Giving kicked off Saturday with hundreds of runners in Asbury Park raising money for the Special Olympics New Jersey.
The event started out with the Law Enforcement Torch Run. The event helps raise money to allow 26,000 Special Olympics athletes to participate in events year-round and help provide transportation.
About 200 people took part in the Polar Plunge. For every plunge, $100 is donated to Special Olympics New Jersey.
Special Olympics New Jersey provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in 24 Olympic-type sports for thousands of children and adults with intellectual disabilities for free.
This year's Thanks4Giving raised nearly $50,000.
The next Polar Plunge will take place in January 2020 in Wildwood.
More information can be found on the Special Olympics website.
