Damage assessments are underway on Long Beach Island after severe erosion left sand cliffs up to 20 feet high along parts of the shoreline.
Congressman Jeff Van Drew toured the areas, saying recent beach replenishment projects helped protect homes from the storm’s impact. He is now calling for additional federal funding for the repairs.
Van Drew said he plans to push for more federal aid, noting that $100 million was secured for the Jersey Shore last year.
He is also calling for a permanent source of federal funding for beach replenishment and other shore protection projects across New Jersey.
