An 18-year-old accused of killing a 10-year-old boy in Asbury Park has returned to New Jersey.
Karon Council was arrested last weekend in Florida where he allegedly ran following the shooting. Council waived extradition and was in court in Monmouth County Thursday.
Council gave the judge a blank stare when he was told that he could spend the rest of his life in prison if convicted.
Council is accused of killing Yovanni Banos-Merino on Ridge Avenue in Asbury Park. The boy’s mother was also shot, but survived.
Investigators claim that Council was looking to settle a score with another man and when he couldn't find that person, he took it out on the family of his target's girlfriend.
A 16-year-old was also charged with murder in relation to the killing.
