Safety devices have been installed at a popular Jersey City park where a brutal crime took place.
Towering blue lights with emergency call buttons can now be found across Lincoln Park following the rape and murder of a 45-year-old woman in March.
Marion Rojer, who says she basically lives at park, urged officials to install the blue lights following the death of Carolina Cano.
"This geolocator tells them where you are at and you don't have to know," Rojer says. "That is one of the main reasons I wanted these lights."
The lights are equipped with a camera monitored by county police. The emergency button connects to a call center for anyone feeling threatened or under attack.
A total of seven of the blue safety devices have been placed throughout the park.
Local officials announced that the cameras are up and running just feet from a memorial honoring Cano, who worked as a nanny in the neighborhood.
Jersey City Councilmember Mira Prinz-Arey says the March murder "shocked people" and that "there was a lot of fear."
In addition to the blue lights, the county has also expanded the number of surveillance cameras throughout the park.
