After this morning's exciting waterspout, from a lone thunderstorm moving south, the weather was very nice for July. In fact, some neighborhoods of northwestern New Jersey woke up with morning lows in the 50s. There was an early fall feel in the air.
Daily highs were about 5, 6 or 7 degrees cooler than average today with very little humidity in the air. Today was glorious.
Tomorrow, the weather starts to slowly get more summer-like. We still have plenty of sunshine, but with the winds predominantly from the southeast, more humid air will start creeping up the coast.
Thursday is hazy, hot and humid – a forecast more in line with late July. Temperatures in the low 90s.
Friday could be a record-breaker. A record of 99 degrees was set in 2016. I'm forecasting 99 degrees but would not be surprised if most communities in the state are 100 degrees or more. With the air being so buoyant and a cold front creeping closer to the region, scattered storms will fire up.
The weekend is still hot and humid with a lagging frontal boundary in the vicinity. This means a chance for showers and storms. It will cool off on Sunday as that weather system sits just to our south for a day or two before rebounding back through the state, allowing the heat to return with it next week.
