A Springfield family is waking up to damages to their home this morning after high winds Monday night caused a large tree to crash onto the roof.
The incident happened around 8:30 p.m. Monday night on Woodcrest Circle. Police say wind gusts were to blame.
"Strong winds caused a large tree to fall onto a home at this location and cause significant damage to the structure," Police Chief John Cook told News 12.
As the tree fell, it also took down power lines, leading to outages in the area, the chief added. Despite the heavy damage to the home, Cook said no one was injured. The large tree blocked part of the street and the entire front lawn of the house, with part of it resting on the roof.
Crews worked overnight and early this morning to begin the process of removing the large tree and restoring power.
Strong winds led to multiple reports of downed trees, branches and power lines throughout the state Monday night. There were also reports of power outages with JCP&L reporting approximately 1,500 outages and PSE&G seeing just over 300 at about 6 a.m.
