There are still long lines at New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission locations around the state as the agency tries to catch up following a COVID-19 closure.

Two bills now awaiting approval from Gov. Phil Murphy aim to help drivers avoid those long lines.

The first bill would extend how long a driver’s license or photo ID can be used. The expiration date would go from eight years to 12 years. For those who are 65 years old or older, stored photos can be used indefinitely on the ID.

The bill also calls to reserve certain appointment times for seniors and others with certain medical conditions during the pandemic.

The second bill would allow people who moved to New Jersey during the pandemic up to 130 days to get a new driver’s license and register their vehicle. Usually they only have 60 days.
