There is bipartisan approval for Gov. Phil Murphy’s pick for the state Supreme Court.

Fabiana Pierre-Louis received unanimous approval from the Senate Judiciary Committee on Monday.

Pierre-Louis, 39, is the daughter of Haitian immigrants and would be the first Black woman on the state Supreme Court.

“This nomination is truly the honor of a lifetime for me. I hold the Supreme Court of New Jersey, the finest court in our nation, in extremely high regard,” Pierre-Louis said. “I started my career as a law clerk to Justice John Wallace and I have practiced in New Jersey my entire career. The fact that I sit here today with the opportunity to sit on the court is beyond words.”

Pierre-Louis would be eligible to serve 30 years before the court’s mandatory retirement age of 70.
